There's a little wee kitten curled up in my lap right now. She's keeping me warm, purring, and watching everything I'm doing with great curiosity. She's also hiccuping because she ate so fast. Now, I could tell myself I don't have time for this. I don't have time to sit here just petting her.
Why? Let me give you the short list:
I leave on a plane early tomorrow morning.
I don't have all my Christmas presents done.
I need to pack, clean the house, get the dogs ready, laundry...
But then I look at this cat.
She knows what's what.
I think she gets what I sometimes forget -
Food, water, shelter. But, more than that too.
Kindness, calm, trust, patience, and nonjudgmental love.
And pausing. To take a nap. Or to just enjoy what is.
I really think we have it the wrong way around; I think animals are smarter than we are. They get what really matters.
So remember this - what needs to be done will get done. Simplify it. Ask for help when you need it. Appreciate the good.
Pause. Deep breath. It's all good.
p.s. Now she's snoozing, paws hanging off of my lap, the happiest little cat in the world.
Also, I desperately need to find her a home. She is one of our little feral babies, and we just cannot keep another cat. She needs to be with people. Please contact me ASAP if you know someone who could take her. She would make a great Christmas present!
