I took a four-week class last month.
It was called "Awakening the Spark."
The teacher was a photographer that I deeply admire.
I was so excited when I finally enrolled. I had hemmed and hawed back and forth, back and forth about whether or not to take the class.
It seemed like an extravagance. But, I had been looking at it for months. Literally. And I just kept going back to that particular class, that particular link, and my gut kept pushing me to sign up.
So I did.
I am serious when I say that this class was a gift that the Universe brought to me. It is not a coincidence or a fluke that I stumbled upon this website or this specific class.
It is not a mistake to listen to that insistent, persistent inner voice. The one that won't hush.
There were beautiful, hard things that I needed to learn from this class. At this very particular juncture of my life. Lessons that are now deeply rooted. Connections with amazing creators and supportive women.
It taught me so much.
More than anything, it taught me this: Invest in yourself. Invest in your dreams. Scrape and scrap and love yourself enough to say, I need this. I am doing this for me.
I've said it before and I'll say it a million more: The desires of your heart are there for a reason. Have faith that if it is on your heart that there will be a way.
So sign up for that class. Get out your art journal and take 30 minutes for yourself every single day. Borrow a book on photography and get outside and shoot your heart out. Knit. Sew. Create. Ride a horse. Whatever it is, give yourself permission to invest in your dreams. Follow your gut, follow your heart. They will not lead you astray.
I hear you arguing with me. Scoffing.
I don't have time for that.
I'm too busy.
I don't have the money.
My kids/pets/spouse/fill-in-the-blank need me too much.
You might not like what I have to say next, but I think you need to hear it:
"If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse."
― Jim Rohn
Look hard. Look hard at why you're not giving yourself time each day. At why you're not chasing your dreams. Look hard. What's there under the surface? Why aren't you giving yourself permission?
We could all find a million reasons and/or excuses.
You are worth the investment. So worth it.
If you have to, start small. Baby step it. Or maybe you need to fling yourself into this thing, this passion, wholeheartedly. Only you can know that.
Trust, trust, trust your inner voice.
Be brave, friends. I send out all my love and encouragement to you.
