There are a lot things that I don't know. Things that I'm learning.
Like how to take appetizing photos for a recipe.
See, here's the thing - this recipe is fantastic. Honeydew melon ice is refreshing and not too sweet and perfect for a summer evening. It's got all the right quantities and will make you sing. Truly.
Photographing it as a self-taught foodie stylist/blogger/what-have-you was a bit of an issue. Because when you scrape the melon ice into a bowl, instead of looking gloriously Martha-Stewart-esque, it looks decidedly more rice-esque.
RICE. See below for evidence.
So what do you do? You send a picture of it to your sister and ask her what she thinks it looks like (without any prompting, mind you). And when she sends back a message that it looks like rice, well...dang.
You scratch your head and start over.
And you pull out the vintage silverware you found by the side of the road for free (true story!) and you use them instead.
And it looks sort of less-than-like rice.
Huzzah for the win...?
Anyway, it's good. Really good.
It doesn't taste like rice at all.
Honeydew Melon Ice
*based on Martha Stewart Living's recipe in the July/August 2014 issue
1. Place all ingredients except mint into food processor or blender.
2. Puree until smooth.
3. Transfer to an 8-inch square baking dish and freeze until firm.
4. Before serving, scrape with a fork until it has the texture of shaved ice.
5. Serve garnished with fresh mint (this is an absolute must - not merely a suggestion - the mint makes the honeydew melon ice SING). Enjoy immediately.
Happy Monday, friends!
