Oh, my goodness, I love this girl. So much. She's part of the family - she's our sister-from-another-mister. I've known her for many, many years and she's one of those souls that just makes life better. I am so fortunate and so grateful to know this young woman.
And today is her birthday. Happy Birthday, sweetness! You have brought so much good to my life - joy, laughter, support, encouragement - so many good things. I love you, sweet pea! Thank you so very much for sharing today, your kind words, and for being a part of my life. You are the best.

First off, I’m thankful for this dear, sweet, beautiful woman who so kindly asked me to contribute to her creative adventures. Ashley, you are lovely, and you inspire me daily with your creativity and passion for life. I spend a lot of time on the go, and Ashley’s request really gave me a reason to sit down and think about all of the things I am thankful for.
For long hikes in the Ozarks with my amazing mother, who is without a doubt the most truly good human being I have ever known. She has the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met, and I am proud to be her daughter.
For a job that lets me travel all over the country and hang out outside all day doing science. For apple blossoms in Washington, rock walls in Virginia, and puffy clouds over Tennessee.
For owls and their owlets (if you look closely enough, the tiny puff of white just to the left of the trunk is a fluffy owlet peeking its head over the side of the nest to say hello).
For long bike rides by the river and my favorite chorizo tacos.
For mimosas in the morning and a beautiful bride who was kind enough to let me be a part of her big day, and for an amazing friend who made up the second half of the coolest bridesmaid duo ever.
For a spectacular group of lady friends who always know how to have a good time.
For a wonderful friend who is trying very hard to get me a photo of the green flash at sunset on the ocean, and who sends me beautiful Brasilian sunset photos anyway when he doesn’t succeed (photo credit to my good friend, the Captain).
For life in general. I have an amazing family, a wonderful group of friends, an exciting job, and a very sweet gentleman who shares my rather ridiculous sense of humor. I am thankful that all of the opportunities and choices in my life have led me to here, and I am thankful for each day that I get to spend enjoying life.
Thank you, sweet Ashley. Keep making the world more beautiful just by living in it.
