This has been on my heart all week long -
I caught myself doing it. All week.
My work, my blog, my ability as an artist and photographer, the state of my house, my physical and spiritual self.
All of it.
Ever have one of those weeks?
I was moping and feeling frustrated as I looked through some of my work while simultaneously comparing it in my head with the work of other artists and photographers. And bemoaning that mine would never be "that good." Or enough. Or what I really wanted.
But, then the Universe kindly stopped me. (Thank you, Universe.)
As silly as this sounds, I heard a voice very gently say, "Stop." And what came next was a little pep talk:
The Universe: Do you enjoy what you do?
Me: Yes. Very much.
The Universe: So you are passionate about what you are pursuing?
The Universe: That is all that matters.
You may well think I am certifiably a goof who hears voices. Think what you will, but I believe in that inner voice and I do think it is my guide in this messy, hard life. The one that is guiding me to an authentic existence. That gives me hope.
And, you know what? That is all that matters. Truly. I love what I feel when I have a camera in my hands. I love producing a final image that means something to me. I love writing this blog. And like I wrote last week, all of this - these pursuits - are on my heart for a reason.
Fortunately I came across the work of two very strong women whose words spoke to my soul and reminded me to love what I am doing. I know that this was not coincidence. Michelle Gardella's words brought me back to why I started all this when she says: "YOU ARE ENOUGH."
Jennifer Tonetti-Spellman says this: "The only way to truly succeed is to stop comparing and start DOING. Start carving out YOU. You are your own unique self. No one can ever be you and bring what you can to the table. No one has 'your eye.' Why waste time comparing yourself to others when you can be using that energy to learn and inspire yourself?" (See the rest of the article HERE.)
So I'll keep doing it. And I'll remember,
Blessings, my friends. Enjoy a wonderful, wonderful weekend.
