I have professed this before, but I will say it again: I believe that drinking green tea automatically absolves all of my food sins.
Half a bag of white cheddar popcorn downed in one sitting? Drink a glass of green tea and poof! As if it never happened.
(We're all clear here that I don't really believe that right? Right?? Okay, good.)
But the power of green tea can't be ignored - loads and loads of good stuff for you. I drink more tea than I do coffee and green tea is my go-to. I am especially fond of Tazo's Zen. Oh, yes. I go through lots of boxes of that Zen.
And I am a purest. I don't sweeten my tea. No honey. No additives. No milk of any kind. Just straight up. But when I came across this recipe in my quest to filter out some of the post-holiday sludge in my system, I had an aha.
Why not add green tea to the smoothie?? Heck, throw in some spinach for good measure as well. And a beautiful thing was born.
Trust me, your system will most definitely thank you for this smoothie. I could feel my body thanking me after I had several of these.
Cleansing Green Smoothie
based on Free People's Spring Cleanse Smoothie
1/2 cucumber, sliced
1 pear, cut into pieces
handful of kale
handful of spinach
several sprigs mint
1/2 cup brewed green tea, cooled*
*If you must insist on missing out on the goodness of green tea, I suppose you could use filtered water instead. Or coconut water. (Insert dramatic sigh.)
1. Place prepared ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
2. Drink while cold and enjoy!
Happy Monday, friends!
